We celebrated with our school friends last night. It has been 45 years since we graduated high school. I had a lot of great friends. I held on to a few collectibles from my childhood. Although my family were Braves fans there was something special about Charlie Hustle. I went looking for these two items after learning of Petes passing. This poster hung on my wall for years, and I was a subscriber to Sports Illustrated.

He was truly the hit king and brought a great deal of excitement on the baseball field when I was growing up.

There is no doubt he should be in the baseball Hall of Fame. Pete missing from the HOF is a definite error on the part of baseball leadership.

Last year, I had the privilege of being a passenger on a memorable ride, although I wasn’t there in person, I had the privilege of editing the stories, enjoying the conversation between my friend Jeff Zurcher and his grandpa, who was 104 years old at the time. Just last week, Jeff and his family celebrated the remarkable life of his grandpa, who lived to be 105. A World War II veteran, he had incredible stories of a life well-lived.

Since losing my parents in 2014 and 2015, I’ve been encouraging others to record the stories of their loved ones. As you listen to this episode, you’ll understand why. Stories are treasures meant to be preserved for future generations. I always thought there would be more time with my parents, but that wasn’t the case.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing some of the stories Jeff recorded with his grandpa. I hope these stories bring back wonderful memories for you and offer encouragement. I again urge you to record the stories of your family and friends before it’s too late.
